      • If the chapter cannot use the tax-exempt status of the university, then the chapter needs to fill out the survey linked below.
    • If the chapter does not have its own federal tax ID #: Unfortunately, chapters are not allowed to use NSBE’s tax id #: you must obtain your own. You can apply for one at the following website: https://irs-form-ss-4.com/.

To Remain Active:

Every year (May 1 – Jul 31) chapters should prepare to re-charter.

  • Prepare incoming officers for their roles
  • Ensure chapter meets re-charter requirements (same as criteria to charter a new chapter)
  • Ensure all officers (incoming especially) have renewed their membership to ensure smooth transition

Re-chartering opens August 1 and closes October 31

  • This is where you’ll update your chapter information, officers, and chapter constitution.
  • August 1 – September 30 is great time to submit group memberships for your chapter if your chapter plans to attend FRCs (late October – end of November)

Processing Times

  • Chartering and Re-chartering a chapter can take up to 2–4 weeks.
  • If we are in FRC season processing times can take up to 6 weeks.
